A great turn out from Sodbury members and a great coarse gave hopes that points may come our way, The day started ans stayed cold, and with the two stream crossings feet turned into blocks of ice. Mud became boggy and at the best slippy on the corners, the addition of a technical climb i the tree's added a bit of something extra, but to the best of my knowledge all managed to stay rubber side down. And talking of rubber tyre pressures may have payed a part in the races outcome, with long fast firm sections and deep muddy areas this was going to be a battle of two half's.
Vet 50-60s race rolled up and we had three riders all hungry for Mud, Ian Sparrow, Simon Davis and Matt Reynolds returned for another bash of road, Matt received a better than anticipated start and pulled out a good lead over Ian and Simon and in the deteriorating conditions came back in 17th overall and 15th V50 with 6 laps in 46:48, Simon came home in 21st overall and 19th in V50 with 6 laps in 48:45 and Ian 29th overall and 25th in V50 with 5 laps in 44:41.
The woman's race showed how great things can be in local CX races, we have first time racers, mothers on mountain bikes and then the under 23 world champ turns up for Jolly's. Club member Jo Jago and Heidi are taking on the conditions and this heavily loaded women's field. After 44:48 and 5 laps Jo came back in 9th overall and 4th senior and Heidi was 11th overall and 5th in seniors with 5 laps in 47:14.
Chris Britten was last out on to the mud in the vets 40 race, after a few hundred laps already being raced on this course things had become a bit more dicey, 40 mins looked hard enough but 60 mins was tough, Chris came home in 19th place with 8 laps in 1:09:02 picking up some important points.
