Time Trialing, 2016 review.

Charles Coleman (DRC Racing) receiving the T.T. Trophy for 2016 from Terry Gradidge ( Sodbury C.S. T.T. Coordinator )

SCS TT series report

Looking back at the club's 2016 time trial series, it seemed as if the gods

were against us from the outset. Many of the ten scheduled races were

affected by rain, if not during the race, then just beforehand making the

setting up of race signage an uncomfortable process! This includes one

occasion when the conditions were so poor that we cancelled the race in the

interests of rider safety - probably much to the relief of the three or four

individuals who were debating whether or not to ride. And to add insult to

injury, conditions were great for the final race, but we had to rejig the

course (reducing its distance) at the last minute having found that

temporary traffic lights had been set up approaching Acton Turville earlier

in the day.

Nevertheless, although a little down on the previous season, the series was

well supported with up to 15 entrants per race, a total of 38 different

individuals riding at least one event and it was encouraging to see two

under-16's, Emily Abram and James Cooke, amongst them. As the season

progressed, a tussle for overall honours in the series (based on a points

system, with each rider's best seven scores aggregated) developed between

Sodbury Cycle-Sport's Chris Britton, Chris Leng (VC Walcot) and Charles

Coleman (DRK Racing). Charles eventually came out on top with his four wins

and three second places giving him an impressive 344 points, a ten point

margin over runner-up Chris Leng, who was also top of the Veteran 40-49 age

group. Sodbury's Chris Britton comfortably held on to third place overall,

finishing well clear of the next group of high scorers that included two

more Sodbury members, Chris Britten and Tom Saunders, Jo Jago (Performance

Cycles) who was the top female rider, and Steve Cottington (Bath CC), top of

the Veteran 50-59 age group. The Veteran 60+ category was won by Phil Young

(Dursley RC), and at the other end of the age spectrum, Emily Abram (Newport

Velo) and Sodbury's James Cooke both raced twice, with James taking the

honours in the Juv/Jun age category.
